Producer Story

This one deserves a producer section.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Rodrigo Sánchez Valencia is a third-generation coffee producer and the steward of Finca Monteblanco, a 14-hectare family farm in Huila, Colombia. Surrounded by the Cueva de los Guácharos protected landscape, Monteblanco has become known for exceptional varieties and meticulous experimental processing. Rodrigo planted Geisha at Monteblanco in 2015, spending years adapting the variety to the farm before it developed the consistency and expression seen today.

Grown by Rodrigo Sánchez at Finca Monteblanco in Huila, Colombia, this Geisha showcases everything that makes the variety so captivating: extraordinary aromatics, delicate sweetness, and remarkable clarity.

The cup opens with fragrant jasmine before unfolding into bright bergamot citrus and a subtle watermelon-candy sweetness. Its body remains light, silky, and distinctly tea-like, allowing each flavor to remain beautifully defined from the first sip through the finish.

What makes this lot particularly interesting is Rodrigo's cold-washed process. After selective harvesting and pulping, the coffee undergoes an extended fermentation in a temperature-controlled environment before being washed and carefully dried. This restrained approach preserves the elegance of the Geisha while developing sweetness and aromatic complexity. Sources describing this Monteblanco Geisha report a roughly 76-hour cold fermentation around 10–14°C / 50–57°F.

This is a coffee to slow down with—delicate, expressive, and best enjoyed when you have time to notice what changes as the cup cools.
